The son <strong>of</strong> a physician, he grew up in China during<br />

the Cultural Revolution. From 1971 to 1974, he<br />

spent time in a reeducation camp. He fi nally resumed<br />

his studies and graduated with a diploma in history<br />

from the Chinese University <strong>of</strong> Sichuan. He moved to<br />

France to enroll in the <strong>French</strong> fi lm school IDHEC. He<br />

appeared as himself in a documentary (1996 La Plante<br />

humaine (Pierre Hébert, Canada / France) and played<br />

a supporting role in a TV series (2000 L’Instit, episode<br />

“Ting Ting,” Pascale Dallet).<br />
