director from 1980 to 1988, he turned out<br />

shorts. His fi rst feature-length fi lm (Tabataba), shown<br />

at the Cannes <strong>Film</strong> Festival directors’ fortnight, was<br />

the fi rst Malgach movie shot in 35-mm.<br />
