The son of a popular novelist of the early twentieth
century, Jules de Gastyne, he opted for painting and
studied at the Beaux-Arts. Having won the First
Rome Prize in 1911, he became a production designer
in 1919 (La Sultane de l’Amour, two parts, René
Le Somptier, Charles Burguet; 1920 La Croisade, René
Le Somptier; 1926 La Chaussée des Géants, Robert
Boudrioz, Jean Durand). He signed his fi lms as Marc
de Gastyne since L’Ecole de Barbizon (1943).
