ROBERT, JACQUES (Jacques Robert Kneubuhler /<br />

Swiss born, he made his fi lm debut in 1914 as a supporting<br />

actor in Henri Pouctal’s version <strong>of</strong> Le Comte<br />

de Monte-Cristo. His fi rst directing effort was La Vivante<br />

Epingle, produced by Gaumont in 1921, in which<br />

starred his muse Lilian Constantini (1902–1982). He<br />

died prematurely at age thirty-eight.<br />

his living as a fashion and stage photographer for several<br />

years before trying his luck as an actor in fi lms<br />
