He arrived in France at age six and settled in Paris<br />

in 1979 intending to become an actor. From 1984<br />

to 1986, he was an assistant director or a freelance<br />

production manager on video clips, commercials, and<br />

feature fi lms (1986 Mauvais Sang, Leos Carax). In<br />

1990, he founded a production company, Route 66,<br />

and produced shorts and commercials. Other credit<br />

(as fi rst assistant director): 2005 La vida perra de Juanita<br />

Narboni (Farida Belyazid; Morocco / Spain).<br />

Of Algerian descent, he graduated with a diploma in<br />

audiovisual studies and worked for six years as an<br />

assistant director for <strong>French</strong> TV. He directed his fi rst<br />

feature fi lm in 1984. Four years later, he co-founded<br />

with Jean Bréhat a production company, 3B, which<br />

fi nanced the movies he directed and about twenty<br />

other fi lms (from 1992 Faut-il aimer Mathilde?, Edwin<br />

Baily, to 2008 Nilo<strong>of</strong>ar, Sabine El Gemayel).<br />
