A former race car driver, he made his fi lm debut at<br />

the Paramount as an assistant to directors Jacques<br />

Deval, Harry Lachman, and Louis Mercanton. His only<br />

directing effort was a memorable epic on Bertrand<br />

du Guesclin, a <strong>French</strong> constable <strong>of</strong> the fourteenth<br />

century who bravely fought the English. He fi nished<br />

his pr<strong>of</strong>essional career as a movie theater owner.<br />

Having trained as an anthropologist, she directed mostly<br />

She only spent two months studying cinema at the<br />

Faculty <strong>of</strong> Censier. While earning her living as a switchboard<br />

operator, waitress, and cleaning lady, she learned<br />

her craft working as an assistant on shorts. A fi lm<br />

directress since 1987, she is also an assistant director<br />

in the fi lm). He appeared as himself in various documentaries<br />
