fi rst feature fi lm received the Louis Delluc Prize in<br />

2005. He appeared as himself in Evidences (documentary,<br />

He started out as fi rst assistant director to Jean<br />

as a director, he went over into production and successively<br />

worked as producer (1959 Détournement<br />

de Mineures / USA: The Price <strong>of</strong> Flesh, Walter Kapps),<br />

production supervisor (1962 La Croix des Vivants /<br />

Het Kruis der levenden / USA: Cross <strong>of</strong> the Living, Yvan<br />

Govar, with the collaboration <strong>of</strong> Robert Mazoyer,<br />

France / Belgium, shot in 1960–1961), and production<br />

manager (1968 Un Epais Manteau de Sang / USA: Flesh<br />

CORNEAU, ALAIN (August 7, 1943, Meung-sur-<br />

Loire, Loiret, France–)<br />

The son <strong>of</strong> a veterinarian and movie buff father with<br />

whom he saw dozens <strong>of</strong> American movies (mostly<br />

westerns and fi lms noirs), he was an amateur jazz<br />

drummer before settling in Paris to study cinema at<br />

the IDHEC. Having graduated in 1966, he moved to<br />

New York, where he vainly tried to shoot a documentary<br />

on free jazz. Having returned to France, he<br />

landed a job <strong>of</strong> trainee assistant director (1967 Un
