The son <strong>of</strong> hosiers, he was the pupil <strong>of</strong> Julien Bertheau<br />

and Maurice Escande at the Conservatoire<br />

d’Art Dramatique de Paris. He made his stage debut<br />

at the Comédie Française in 1942. He devoted his life<br />

to theater as a performer and a director. From 1941<br />

(Premier Rendez-vous / USA: Her First Affair, Henri Decoin)<br />

to 1969 (Trois Hommes sur un Cheval), he played<br />

supporting roles in twenty-nine movies. He brought<br />

to the screen Georges Feydeau’s play La Puce à<br />

l’Oreille, starring Rex Harrison and Louis Jourdan. He<br />

died <strong>of</strong> a heart attack at age fi fty-fi ve. Autobiography:<br />

An ideas man and writer for ten years for the advertising<br />

agency CLM-BBDO before shooting commercials,<br />

he directed successful comedies. He occasionally<br />

appeared as an actor in a couple <strong>of</strong> fi lms (1985<br />

La Nuit Porte-Jarretelles, Virginie Thévenet; 1999 Doggy<br />

Bag, Frédéric Comtet).<br />
