ARCADY, ALEXANDRE (Arcady Brachlian<strong>of</strong>f /<br />

March 17, 1947, Algiers, Algeria–)<br />

A former actor (1972 Avoir Vingt Ans dans les Aurès,<br />

René Vautier) and stage director, he shot his fi rst TV<br />

movie at age twenty-seven and his fi rst feature fi lm<br />

fi ve years later. In 1977, he co-created with Diane<br />

Kurys a production company, Alexandre <strong>Film</strong>s, that<br />

co-fi nanced all their fi lms. His son is director Alexandre<br />

ARDOUIN, JACQUES (November 6, 1937, Paris,<br />

France–August 21, 2002, Quincy-Sous-Sénart, Essonne,<br />

France)<br />

After his studies at the center <strong>of</strong> dramatic art <strong>of</strong><br />

the Rue Blanche, he joined the National Conservatory<br />

<strong>of</strong> Paris and started a satisfying double career<br />

as actor and stage director. Unfortunately, his contribution<br />

to cinema was less interesting. He mostly<br />

played in lowbrow Richard Balducci’s comedies<br />

(1981 Prends ta Rolls . . . et va pointer; 1982 N’oublie<br />

pas ton Père au Vestiaire) and a few average fi lms<br />

(1972 Il n’y a pas de Fumée sans Feu / Non c’è fuomo<br />

senza fuoco / UK and USA: Where There’s No Smoke,<br />

André Cayatte, France / Italy; 1974 Le Protecteur /<br />

Trafi co de mujeres, Roger Hanin, France / Spain; 1975<br />

Le Faux Cul, Roger Hanin; 1980 La Boum / USA: The<br />

Party, Claude Pinoteau). The only movie he directed<br />

was a boulevard comedy.<br />

Argentina–)<br />

A stage actor and director and a playwright, he created<br />

a troupe in Argentina (TSE) that followed him in<br />

his exile. He spent a short time in New York before<br />

settling in 1970 in Paris, where he also directed classics,<br />

contemporary texts, operas, and musical plays.<br />

He wrote a novel, Le Sérum de Bonté (Les Editions<br />

d’aujourd’hui, 1957), that was adapted as a 26 13'<br />

TV series in 1960 (director: Jean-Daniel Norman)<br />

before shooting three comedies and fading into<br />

obscurity.<br />
