A lover <strong>of</strong> genre cinema, he spent his high school<br />

hours in movie theaters. He had his fi rst pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

contact with cinema as a trainee costume designer<br />

for Les Demoiselles de Rochefort / The Young Girls <strong>of</strong><br />

Rochefort (Jacques Demy, 1966). He successively was<br />

a trainee director (1969–1970) and assistant cameraman<br />

and then cameraman (1970–1971) before making<br />

his directing debut. He also played a small part in<br />

L’Oeil du Maître (Stéphane Kurc).<br />
