Of Polish descent, he went to Guayaquil, Ecuador,<br />

in 1952 and spent his childhood in South America<br />

(he defi nes himself as a “tropical Jew”). He settled in<br />

France in 1962 (British born, he became a <strong>French</strong> citizen<br />

in 1970). For his eighteenth birthday, he received<br />

a silent Super-8 camera and began a fi lmed diary that<br />

remains a work in progress. A prolifi c experimental<br />

fi lmmaker, he shot almost 800 movies, according to<br />

fi lm historian Raphaël Bassan. He also wrote a short<br />

(1979 Shiva, also actor, Gérard Courant), occasionally<br />

played in fi lms (1982 L’Escalier de la Haine, short,<br />

Louis Skorecki; 1989 Les Aventures d’Eddie Turley, Gérard<br />
