After his studies <strong>of</strong> modern letters, he settled in<br />

Paris in 1964. From 1965 to 1968, he directed poetic<br />

and experimental shows in various universities (La<br />

Sorbonne, Assas). In 1969, he made his fi lm debut<br />

as a cameraman on several shorts and as assistant<br />

to director Peter Kassovitz (La Montre, short) and<br />

Diourka Medveczky (Paul). The same year, he collaborated<br />

on a TV documentary on the hippie movement<br />

as a director and cinematographer <strong>of</strong> a segment shot<br />

in Nepal. He also worked as a reporter and photographer<br />

and directed institutional fi lms. In 1983, he<br />

created with Bernard Lortat-Jacob the Festival du<br />

<strong>Film</strong> des Musiques du Monde.<br />

He studied cinema at the University <strong>of</strong> Paris VIII and<br />

began directing documentaries for the Planète TV<br />

channel. From 1992 to 1996, he sojourned to Sarajevo,<br />

where he worked with Bosniac director Ademir<br />

Kenovic for two years. The shooting <strong>of</strong> his fi rst feature<br />

fi lm took two years. He is also a teacher at the<br />

Fémis and at the University <strong>of</strong> Val-de-Marne.
