Receiver - Search Functions<br />

The peak excursion is preset to 6 dB. This is sufficient for the functions NEXT<br />

PEAK (or NEXT MIN) as the next smallest (or highest) signal is always<br />

searched four.<br />

Functions NEXT PEAK LEFT and NEXT PEAK RIGHT (or NEXT MIN LEFT<br />

and NEXT MIN RIGHT) search for the next relative maximum (or minimum)<br />

irrespective of the current signal amplitude.<br />

As for wide bandwidths, the set 6-dB level change is already reached by the<br />

noise indication of the receiver, the noise values are also identified as peak. In<br />

this case, a value for PEAK EXCURSION which is greater than the difference<br />

between the maximum and minimum noise display reading must be entered.<br />

The following example shows the effect of different PEAK EXCURSION<br />

settings.<br />

Maximum relative level change of the measured signals:<br />

Signal 2: 42dB<br />

Signal 3 30dB<br />

Signal 4: 46dB<br />

With Peak Excursion 40dB signal 2 and 4 are detected by NEXT PEAK or<br />

NEXT PEAK RIGHT. Signal 3 is not detected since it is only decreased by 30<br />

dB before rising again.<br />

Order in which signals are found:<br />

PEAK: Signal 1 or PEAK: Signal 1<br />

NEXT PEAK: Signal 2 NEXT PEAK RIGHT: Signal 2<br />

NEXT PEAK: Signal 4 NEXT PEAK RIGHT: Signal 4<br />
