<strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Basic</strong> <strong>Professional</strong> <strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Course</strong> (BPTC) on Nuclear Safety<br />

compliance with the release criteria for the site or review of the implementation of<br />

restrictions at the site.<br />

When the objectives of the site release have been accomplished to the satisfaction of the<br />

regulatory body, the regulatory body should formally notify the operator, other relevant<br />

competent authorities and <strong>in</strong>terested parties of the decision to release the site from<br />

regulatory control. In the event of a decision for restricted use, the notification should<br />

specify the restrictive measures and their associated time frames, and the entities<br />

responsible for the implementation, monitor<strong>in</strong>g and regulatory control of these<br />

restrictions and of the release of the site for unrestricted use.<br />

19.4. DECOMMISSIONING IN KOREA<br />

19.4.1. Regulations and requirements<br />

In the Atomic Energy Act(AEA) and the Enforcement Regulations of the AEA, it is<br />

clearly def<strong>in</strong>ed that the decommission<strong>in</strong>g of a nuclear facility is the responsibility of the<br />

operator of the facility. The operator, with the <strong>in</strong>tention of decommission<strong>in</strong>g a nuclear<br />

facility, shall submit a decommission<strong>in</strong>g plan and obta<strong>in</strong> approval of decommission<strong>in</strong>g<br />

from the M<strong>in</strong>istry of Education, Science and Technology(MEST).<br />

A decommission<strong>in</strong>g plan shall <strong>in</strong>clude the follow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
