<strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Basic</strong> <strong>Professional</strong> <strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Course</strong> (BPTC) on Nuclear Safety<br />

In accordance with operat<strong>in</strong>g organization policy, appropriate procedures exist for the<br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g areas:<br />

Rules for electrical, mechanical and radiological isolations are published and<br />

adhered to;<br />

Appropriate safety documents such as work permits, access permits, and<br />

authorizations for test<strong>in</strong>g are used;<br />

A register is ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed, such that shift personnel are aware of all systems and<br />

components out of service at any time. It is particularly important that the<br />

availability of redundant safety equipment is verified before any safety related<br />

component is isolated;<br />

Complex isolation procedures or checklists are verified by an eng<strong>in</strong>eer of the direct<br />

operations group;<br />

Suitable arrangements are made for lock<strong>in</strong>g, tagg<strong>in</strong>g or otherwise secur<strong>in</strong>g isolation<br />

po<strong>in</strong>ts to ensure safety;<br />

Out of service systems and components are identified by appropriate signs and tags<br />

both <strong>in</strong> the plant and <strong>in</strong> the control room;<br />

Tags are periodically reviewed for accuracy and cont<strong>in</strong>ued applicability;<br />

Arrangements are made for transferr<strong>in</strong>g responsibilities for the work permits from<br />

shift to shift;<br />

Conventional hazards such as fluids under high pressure, toxic and asphyxiat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

gases, or hazardous chemicals are identified;<br />

Appropriate arrangements are made <strong>in</strong> safety documents to control the work of<br />

more than one group on a system or component, and to control shift work by<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>tenance or other personnel;<br />

Controls are <strong>in</strong> place for activities that may change either radiological conditions or<br />
