<strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Basic</strong> <strong>Professional</strong> <strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Course</strong> (BPTC) on Nuclear Safety<br />

Nuclear safety can be considered the foundation for chang<strong>in</strong>g the citizen's perspectives<br />

and for rais<strong>in</strong>g social awareness. One of the most important activities is the confirmation<br />

process for the citizens through periodic survey<strong>in</strong>g of public op<strong>in</strong>ion and the transparent<br />

publiciz<strong>in</strong>g of safety <strong>in</strong>formation.<br />

Recently, at the KINS, <strong>in</strong> order to respond the public concerns, a nuclear safety<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation center (Here<strong>in</strong> ‘NSIC’) was established, and comprehensive and systematic<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation publiciz<strong>in</strong>g activities are be<strong>in</strong>g conducted. Here, the status, activities, and<br />

future plan of this center will be <strong>in</strong>troduced.<br />

1.2. ESTABLISHMENT OF THE NSIC<br />

In response to the <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g social concern about nuclear safety and to publicize relevant<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation, <strong>in</strong> the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of 2002, MOST (M<strong>in</strong>istry of Science and Technology; old<br />

name of MEST, M<strong>in</strong>istry of Education, Science and Technology) conceptualized the<br />

“Center for Nuclear Safety Information Disclosure” for comprehensive and systematic<br />

publiciz<strong>in</strong>g the aforementioned <strong>in</strong>formation. Follow<strong>in</strong>g these measures, <strong>in</strong> November of<br />

2002, the <strong>Korea</strong> Institute of Nuclear Safety (Here<strong>in</strong> ‘KINS’), which is an organization for<br />

nuclear regulations, established the “Nuclear Safety Information Center.” And <strong>in</strong> June<br />

2003, to promote nuclear safety <strong>in</strong>formation disclosure, a cyber system<br />
