THE NSIC<br />

1.3.1. Publicity Activities<br />

The NSIC aims to provide <strong>in</strong>formation on nuclear safety rapidly and transparently <strong>in</strong><br />

accordance with the op<strong>in</strong>ions of public. To hear the voice of public and monitor for the<br />

publicized <strong>in</strong>formation, we have formed a network with the local <strong>in</strong>habitants of NPP<br />

sites, and met more than once a year s<strong>in</strong>ce 2004. Also, to actively publicize safety<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation, an e‐mail service is be<strong>in</strong>g ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed, and other technical staffs of the KINS<br />

are be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>volved to provide easy‐to‐understand safety <strong>in</strong>formation for the public. Also,<br />

<strong>in</strong> order to promote public <strong>in</strong>formation issues and criteria, demonstration of cyber<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation system is be<strong>in</strong>g conducted with the NPP's area residents. Furthermore, social<br />

acceptance symposiums on nuclear safety and policy debate on the nuclear safety day,<br />

and other public meet<strong>in</strong>gs are be<strong>in</strong>g used to better <strong>in</strong>form the public.<br />

(a) E‐mail Club Operation<br />

The e‐mail club provides up‐to‐date e‐mails to those who actively are subscribed and<br />

requested the safety <strong>in</strong>formation to ensure the citizen's right to <strong>in</strong>formation and to raise<br />

the understand<strong>in</strong>g of nuclear safety. The <strong>in</strong>formation conta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> the e‐mail <strong>in</strong>cludes<br />

safety <strong>in</strong>formation for nuclear facilities, radioactive and radioactive isotope safety<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation, nuclear safety related policy trends, event <strong>in</strong>formation, and more, weekly<br />

(every Tuesday). Presently, the members of e‐mail clubs consists of people of the national<br />

assembly, the government, the autonomous and related organizations of NPP sites, the<br />

general public, journalists, NGOs, academic circles, and residents of NPP sites. The
