9. Probabilistic Safety Analysis<br />

A PSA level 3 is needed when probabilistic safety criteria have been def<strong>in</strong>ed by<br />

regulatory bodies. The most commonly used level 3 safety criteria are: <strong>in</strong>dividual risks of<br />

early and late fatal health effect; societal risk of early fatal health effect; collective risks<br />

and the risk of unacceptable land contam<strong>in</strong>ation.<br />

9.1.6.2. Steps of the PSA level 3<br />

The different steps of evaluation of risks are the follow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

Description of the radionuclides release from PSA level 2;<br />

Atmospheric dispersion and disposition;<br />

Meteorological data;<br />

Exposure pathways;<br />

Population, agricultural and economic data;<br />

Countermeasures;<br />

Health effects.
