15. Operational Safety<br />

Safety improvement can no longer rely only on plant upgrad<strong>in</strong>g, man‐mach<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong>terface,<br />

procedures, regulations and tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g. Above all, it also needs the commitment of<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividuals to improvements <strong>in</strong> safety <strong>in</strong> everyday activities.<br />

Verify<strong>in</strong>g implementation<br />

The effectiveness of actions undertaken at the sites is checked regularly by the NPP<br />

power generation division management: Assessments performed by the Nuclear<br />

specific audits reports directly to the Head of NPP Operation Division.<br />

15.3.2.2. Responsibilities of site management<br />

The site manager is responsible for everyday nuclear operat<strong>in</strong>g safety: it is he who<br />

implements the necessary resources to obta<strong>in</strong> it.<br />

This commitment is expressed <strong>in</strong> the Site Strategy Statement where the goals and<br />

objectives of the site are stated for the com<strong>in</strong>g years. This document <strong>in</strong>cludes a section<br />

relat<strong>in</strong>g to nuclear safety. Furthermore, there is now a year‐end safety report<strong>in</strong>g system,<br />

similar to the management report<strong>in</strong>g structure. At the end of each year, the site safety<br />

report is submitted to the management of NPP power generation division. The site safety<br />

report is compared with the analysis of the past year’s events made by the national<br />

eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g departments.
