The code provides criteria and procedures that are recommended for safety <strong>in</strong> NPP Sit<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

The code is supported with Safety Guides that provide guidance and procedures and<br />

supplement the Code <strong>in</strong> specific topics. The sit<strong>in</strong>g process for a NPP generally consists of<br />

a study and <strong>in</strong>vestigation of a large area to select one or more candidate sites (see IAEA<br />

Safety Guide 50SG‐S9 on Site Survey [5.2], followed by a detailed evaluation of those<br />

sites. This Code is primarily concerned with the later stage.<br />

Major factors considered are:<br />

Effect of the region of the site on the plant;
