<strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Basic</strong> <strong>Professional</strong> <strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Course</strong> (BPTC) on Nuclear Safety<br />

aga<strong>in</strong>st fires and fire related explosions. Design consideration has been given to<br />

protection of safety related systems based on hazards analysis.<br />

Diverse monitor<strong>in</strong>g and protection systems exist with both automatic and manual<br />

<strong>in</strong>itiation capabilities and fail safe supervision and alarms. Fire suppression systems for<br />

example water; CO2 or Halon should be matched through eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g evaluation<br />

dependent on needs.<br />

The fire protection program takes <strong>in</strong>to account the necessary tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of fire brigade<br />

members, fire brigade backup support, required realistic drills and a def<strong>in</strong>ed cha<strong>in</strong> of<br />

command for on the scene emergency conditions.<br />

Procedures exist with<strong>in</strong> the station to provide control of combustible materials, the<br />

temporary disabl<strong>in</strong>g of fire barriers or fire suppression and detection systems. General<br />

tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g relative to fire hazards, flood<strong>in</strong>g, secondary effects of fires and fire zone<br />

protection is provided to station personnel.<br />

Typical documents show<strong>in</strong>g fire protection practices are the follow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

Organization chart with functional areas related to fire protection;<br />

The fire protection program if available;<br />

Fire protection program;<br />

Implement<strong>in</strong>g procedures;<br />

Surveillance procedures;<br />

Fire hazards analysis;<br />

<strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> and fire drill records.<br />
