<strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Basic</strong> <strong>Professional</strong> <strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Course</strong> (BPTC) on Nuclear Safety<br />

technical specifications, standard technical specifications developed by USNRC became<br />

the technical basis when writ<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dividual NPP operational technical specifications and<br />

such formats of technical specifications have been used for many years.<br />

The standard operational technical specifications def<strong>in</strong>e the def<strong>in</strong>ite tools of formats,<br />

characteristics, and equipment details to make possible proper management and<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>tenance to <strong>in</strong>sure the health and safety of the public. The format of the standard<br />

technical specifications <strong>in</strong> 10CFR 50.36 <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the follow<strong>in</strong>g six sections: ①<br />

Def<strong>in</strong>itions, ② Safety Limits and Safety System Limit<strong>in</strong>g Sett<strong>in</strong>gs ③ LCOs, ④<br />

Surveillance Requirements, ⑤ Design Characteristics, and ⑥ Adm<strong>in</strong>istrative Controls.<br />

For each LCOs, the related LCO and Surveillance Requirements are stated together.<br />

1) Def<strong>in</strong>ition<br />

The first section of the standard operational technical specifications def<strong>in</strong>es term<strong>in</strong>ology.<br />

Def<strong>in</strong>itions of all the term<strong>in</strong>ology used <strong>in</strong> the NPP technical specifications are stated <strong>in</strong><br />

this section. The previous 4 operation modes have been modified to <strong>in</strong>clude 6 operation<br />

modes shown <strong>in</strong> Table 10.5 that are be<strong>in</strong>g used to this day.<br />
