purposes;<br />

1. All safety functions are checked aga<strong>in</strong>st acceptance criteria to give the operator a<br />

complete status regard<strong>in</strong>g plant conditions and safety.<br />

2. The check of safety functions provides the operator with objective decision criteria<br />

as to whether action is required <strong>in</strong> the short term to restore plant safety<br />

3. The check of safety functions discrim<strong>in</strong>ates between an uncomplicated reactor trip<br />

and other more complex events.<br />

16.2.4. Optimal Recovery Guidel<strong>in</strong>e (ORG)<br />

ORGs are those guidel<strong>in</strong>es written to address specific symptom sets. In order to m<strong>in</strong>imize<br />

the number of guidel<strong>in</strong>es and to avoid operator confusion, events are grouped <strong>in</strong>to classes<br />

as follow<strong>in</strong>g ;<br />

1. Reactor Trip (RT)<br />

2. Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA)<br />

3. Steam Generator Tube Rupture (SGTR)<br />

4. Excess Steam Demand Event (ESDE)<br />

5. Loss of All Feedwater (LOAF)<br />

6. Loss of Offsite Power (LOOP)<br />

7. Station Blackout (SBO)<br />

ORGs are used to treat specific symptom sets which are identifiable or diagnosable by the<br />

operators follow<strong>in</strong>g a reactor trip. If a specific symptom set can be identified, the<br />

operators will then implement the appropriate ORG and the goal of the recovery actions<br />
