− isolation of the systems or parts of systems of safety grade from the systems or<br />

parts of systems that are non‐safety grade.<br />

6.5.2.2. Non Class 1E requirements:<br />

Non class 1E requirements are specified on a case‐by‐case basis, depend<strong>in</strong>g on the role<br />

played by the systems be<strong>in</strong>g considered. They are specified <strong>in</strong> the sections deal<strong>in</strong>g with<br />

the plant systems where non class 1E functions are <strong>in</strong>volved. As a m<strong>in</strong>imum, the<br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g requirements, <strong>in</strong> addition to those concern<strong>in</strong>g the resistance to seismic<br />

load<strong>in</strong>gs, shall be applied :<br />

− emergency power supplies;<br />

− qualification under ambient conditions;<br />

− design and construction accord<strong>in</strong>g to specific rules;<br />

− capability of be<strong>in</strong>g tested periodically while <strong>in</strong> service;<br />

− quality assurance criteria.<br />

Justification must be provided, on a case‐by‐case basis, for non‐compliance with the<br />

emergency power supply requirements and design and construction specifications <strong>in</strong> the<br />

case of certa<strong>in</strong> equipment <strong>in</strong> non class 1E systems and with the qualification rules<br />

specified <strong>in</strong> IEEE Standard for the equipment <strong>in</strong> class 1E systems.<br />
