The IAEA has developed under the Nuclear Safety Standards Programme (NUSS) a<br />

series of Requirement, formerly called Codes, provid<strong>in</strong>g the basic requirements that must<br />

be met <strong>in</strong> order to assure the safety of nuclear power plants. These requirements fall<br />

under the umbrella of the Safety Fundaments document “The Safety of Nuclear<br />

Installations”, which describes the Objectives and Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples govern<strong>in</strong>g this particular<br />

activity.<br />

In the follow<strong>in</strong>g, a brief outl<strong>in</strong>e of the NUSS‐Safety Codes are given. They are under<br />

revision for issuance as updated Safety Requirements and the description reflects the<br />

update.<br />
