10-B. Technical Specifications for Research Reactors & Non‐power Reactors<br />

(1) Excess reactivity: Annually to biennially and follow<strong>in</strong>g significant core<br />

configuration and/or control rod changes;<br />

(2) Shutdown marg<strong>in</strong>: Annually to biennially and follow<strong>in</strong>g significant core<br />

configuration and/or control rod changes;<br />

(3) Core configuration: Follow<strong>in</strong>g significant core or control rod changes.<br />

10.8.2. Reactor Control and safety Systems<br />

(1) Reactivity worth of control rods <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g peak worth: Annually to biennially and<br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g significant core configuration and/or control rod changes;<br />

(2) Rod withdrawal and <strong>in</strong>sertion speeds: Annually;<br />

(3) Transient rod and associated mechanism, test<strong>in</strong>g, and <strong>in</strong>spection: Annually;<br />

(4) Scram times of control rods: Semiannually to annually or whenever any work is<br />

done on the rods or the rod drive system;<br />

(5) Scram channels : (a) Operability check <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g trip actions and specified<br />

<strong>in</strong>terlocks‐shutdown: 24 hours or quarterly, (b) Calibrations: Annually;<br />

(6) Operability tests follow<strong>in</strong>g modifications or repairs;<br />

(7) Thermal power verification above 2 MW: Monthly to annually when reactor is<br />

operat<strong>in</strong>g;<br />

(8) Thermal power verification 2 MW power or less: Annually;<br />

(9) Interlocks and backup shutdown mechanisms: Annually.<br />
