<strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Basic</strong> <strong>Professional</strong> <strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Course</strong> (BPTC) on Nuclear Safety<br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

(1) Establish a process for deal<strong>in</strong>g with applications, such as, issu<strong>in</strong>g an authorization,<br />

accept<strong>in</strong>g a notification or grant<strong>in</strong>g an exemption or remov<strong>in</strong>g from regulatory<br />

control;<br />

(2) Establish a process for chang<strong>in</strong>g conditions of authorization;<br />

(3) Provide guidance to the operator <strong>in</strong> order that it can develop and present safety<br />

assessments or any other required safety related <strong>in</strong>formation;<br />

(4) Ensure that proprietary <strong>in</strong>formation made available is protected;<br />

(5) Should a submission be rejected, provide an explanation of the reasons;<br />

(6) Deal with, and provide <strong>in</strong>formation to, other competent governmental bodies,<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational organizations and the public;<br />

(7) Ensure that operat<strong>in</strong>g experience is appropriately analysed and that lessons learned<br />

are dissem<strong>in</strong>ated;<br />

(8) Ensure that appropriate records are reta<strong>in</strong>ed, <strong>in</strong> a retrievable manner, <strong>in</strong> relation to<br />

the safety of facilities and activities;<br />

(9) Ensure that regulatory pr<strong>in</strong>ciples and criteria rema<strong>in</strong> adequate, valid and take <strong>in</strong>to<br />

consideration <strong>in</strong>ternationally endorsed standards and recommendations;<br />

(10) Determ<strong>in</strong>e and make known to the operator any requirements for systematic safety<br />

reassessment or periodic safety review;<br />

(11) Advise the government on matters related to the safety of facilities and activities.<br />

(12) Check that personnel responsible for the safe operation of the facility or activity<br />

are competent; and<br />

(13) Check that safety is managed adequately by the operator.<br />

The regulatory body shall co‐operate with, advise and provide <strong>in</strong>formation on safety<br />

matters to other relevant authorities <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g areas, as necessary:<br />

(1) Environmental protection;<br />
