places where they are supervised by adults. Violence is
present in schools and it takes different forms. When
types of experienced/committed violence are concerned
it is concluded that verbal violence is most widely
spread, followed by physical violence, then economic,
whereas the least frequent type of violence was sexual.
Boys are more aggressive and more likely to act as
bullies than girls. Violence is, to a large extent,
committed by peers. Most students who suffer from
symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsiveness react to
violence by acting in the same manner or not
responding at all. Understanding emotions is associated
with social competence and positive attitude towards
friends. It can be concluded that after the
implementation of the violence prevention program in
schools most characteristics encompassed by the
research have proved to be determinant since they
significantly differentiate experimental from the control
group in terms of reduction of internalized and
externalized behavioural problems and thus increasing
likelihood of adaptive response to potentially
conflicting social situations.
