NWDR und Deutschem Dienst der BBC fest, dass dies nicht die Aufgabe des
NWDR sein dürfe:
„’British’ views of current and past events should be conveyed to the German
public mainly by other means. […] The projection of Britain, in the widest sense of
the term, must be one of the main tasks of any B.B.C. service to Europe, and will
contribute directly to the end of re-education.” 650
Ein Jahr nach Inbetriebnahme des Senders war mit den ersten Erfahrungswerten
eine Rückkehr zum Konzept der „Projection of Britain“ vom Tisch:
“We have brought the NWDR to a stage where it has a considerable audience,
who have learned to trust and believe it. […] I am therefore absolutely and
inflexibly opposed to any attempt to use NWDR in this way. The maximum
concession I would be prepared to consider is to allow broadcasts on e.g. British
and German housing problems, musical standards, educational structure etc, by
Germans who had been enabled recently to visit Britain, and see and report
themselves.” 651
Tatsächlich beschränkte sich das Thema Großbritannien im NWDR auf
Reisebeschreibungen oder Berichte von deutschen Mitarbeitern, die in
Austauschprogrammen oder auf Dienstreisen nach England kamen. 652
Britische Besatzungsmacht und Militärregierung, die den Zuhörern näher waren als
das ferne England, waren dagegen häufiger Bestandteil des Programms. Das
geschah durch die Verlautbarungen der Besatzer selbst sowie durch
Berichterstattung durch die deutsche Redaktion. Berühmt wurde Peter von Zahns
