He lived at Dragomirna, then at Secu – where he alsooccupied the position of Father Superior after Paisie left Neamt, 1779 –and lived in Neamt Monastery 16 , teaching “many priests Greek” 17 , and“explaining mny Greek books” 18 , among which “the books of Calist andthe Exaimeron of Great Vasile” 19 .Another translatior from neamt of the Hexaimeron was Rafail, whotranslated this work in 1805 20 . Rafail has translated “from Greek toRomanian” other works also. In 1804 he translated “The Homilies of SaintJohn Mouth of Gold” 21 . He stayed at Secu Monastery as well, where hecopied, following the Greek text also, Saint Efrem Sirul, on 20 th of March1751 22 . He will also copy “Teachings of Isaia the Hermit” and of SaintVasile “References to a fallen monk” 23 , after the explanation made by “thegreat devotee in the teachings of the Holy Scripture, chiriu, Ilarion thehieromonach himself”.The manuscripts with the translation of the Hexaimeron in the variant ofIlarion and Rafail are not to be found in Neamt Monastery and their copieseither. However, there is a manuscript, which I mentioned in footnote 12,translated by a “psalm reader Archimandrite Sofronie Garboschi, 1847”.Who is this Sofronie? Would it be the one that in 1792 was at Dragomirna 24 ,or the one who in 1799 was an ecclesiarch in the Bishopric of Roman andwho copied, stimulated by Veniamin Costachi, four manuscripts 25 , or theone who in 1810, at Slatina Monastery, as an archimandrite, was writingan “Epitaph or the Burying of the Lord that have now been formulatedafter the Greek example”? 26 The formula “psalm reader” makes us15Prot.
