874 Ana Selejanexiled from the political and civilizing European Power (power whichis geographically situated in the centre or the West of Europe), is EastEurope too, more precisely the space of the oriental Latinity’s ethnogeny. The figure of the oriental Latinity – geographically marked by the Getan-Dacian territory and then by the Romanian territory – is chronologicallyreconstituted by the author since Antiquity (1st century a.Ch.) till presentepoch (1950), in four novels: those from the Romanian exile’s trilogy (Godwas born in exile, The knight of resignation, Persecute Boetius) and his lastnovel, Further than the North).Except the novel Persecute Boetius, whose action takes place duringthe repressive Stalinist period, the other three novels recreate the mythicalfigure of the Romanian space, of the oriental Latinity whose centre wasDacia and then Romania. The Getae’s country (from the first novel of theexile trilogy), Wallachia in the 15 th century (in the novel The knight ofresignation), Stephan the Great’s Moldavia (in the novel Further than theNorth) are the three privileged spaces of nostalgia, epically reconstitutedthrough the augmenting technique and they are also ideal representationsof the oriental Latinity. The common item of these special spaces, or greatspaces as Vintilă Horia called in 1990 11 the entrances towards our owneternity, is given by the authentic religiosity, by the spiritual dimension,by the transcendence which descends specific for these places of God, asLucian Blaga would have said.In different historical periods, the sacred dimension is represented bysuperior characters of the spirit: the great Dacian Priest (from the novelGod was born in exile) and Daniil the Anchorite (from the novel Furtherthan the North). The first one as the advocate of Zamolxe, of the belief inthe unique faith and life after death will be prepared to receive Christ’sreligion and share it to the common Getae – all of them theological beingsas N. Steinhardt would call them. The second one, Daniil the Anchorite – isone of the most remarkable character of the novel. The novelist used a lotthe technique of exaggeration in creating this character, which is specificto all these historical fictions which usually bind the document with purefictions in order to obtain verisimilitude, also. Anchorite Daniil’s figure isrendered through the Venetian Matteo Muriano’s evocations, Stephan theGreat’s doctor and one of the four narrators of the book next to Stephanthe Voivode (the voice of which creates the novel of reflexion about thepolitical power but also about hoary age and malady), to the high-ranking11Apud M. Rotaru, op.cit., 353-354: ‟a high place, in the most spiritual meaning ofthe world (...). Ipotesti and Putna or Sucevita are high places of the Romanian people, asort of keys or entrances in our own eternity”.
