4<strong>24</strong> Corina Anca Pervaincan spend their spare time in an active and useful way);• activities to help children acquire reading and information skills(reading contests, role reading classes, annotated readings, writers’bibliographies and works presentations, the information minute,introduction to information knowledge, presenting the advantagesof being a library user – for 15 minutes, during the first visit to thelibrary, when the children will find out more about: the library, thebooks of the Children’s Department, the way the books are arrangedon the shelves, the place where they can spend their spare time, theway they can use the electronic documents, the online informationsources, the computer programmes and courses).• promoting activities (continuing present projects) to enlargethe participants’ cultural perspectives. These projects, inpartnership with schools, offer other forms of learning: reading,group discussions, debates, contests, movies and documentariesscreenings etc., using library information resources. These activitiesput forward the audio-visual materials, the CDs and DVDs, thusobtaining more information, besides that found in books andreference materials (for example, “World cities” CD collection).We also initiate projects for children with special educational needs,that offer them equal chances to social inclusion and to educationaland cultural training, regardless of their disability, ethnic group orreligion;• literary and cultural values promoting activities (paintingexhibitions, photographic and sculptural art, book presentations,meetings with writers, with children book illustrators and graphicdesigners, with actors from the puppet show, partnerships withschool magazines editors, prizes award to readers and partners,literary an experience gained during all these years shows thatperformance is not easily obtained.The programme of cultural, educational and information activitiesis set each year by The Children’s Department librarians, together withThe Reference and Bibliographic Department, all these activities beingcarried out by The Children’s Department, which has an increasing rolein communicating between school, society and family, by permanentlyadjusting the existing means to offer alternatives for its users.The partnerships are a reality we all accepted, characterised bycooperation and constant exchanges between people, institutions andcommunities.
