The centre and the margins of Europeor the duel between civilisationsin Vintilă Horia’s novelsAna SelejanUniversity "Lucian Blaga" – SibiuBetween 1942 when Vintilă Horia (1915-1992) began his careeras a novelist in his country (There the stars burn too…) and 1992 whenhis last novel, (Further than the North, which appeared posthumous,at Cartea Romaneasca Publishing House, at almost one month afterthe writer’s death) in this period of almost half of century, VintilăHoria, except poetry 1 , short stories 2 , literary criticism and literaryhistory 3 , cultural and philosophical essays 4 , and a constant activity as a1Vintilă Horia began his career in his country as a poet with his volume Processions(1937) followed by his collection The castle with ghosts (1939) and The book of the lonelyman (1941), the first two being integrated into The Traditionalist – Thinking movementin lyricism and the last one into the elegiac intimism. In 1951 at Buenos Aires where heestablished himself in 1948 he publishes a quasi – complete book with his poems. Hisrecent poems were published in the volume A saint has died.
