Role of the library in providing accessto public interest information in MoldovaOlesea CobleanState University – ChişinăuAccess to public interest information is a problem of current interestin Moldova that is involved in building a modern informational societytopical interest of the information and communication phenomenon isexplained by the increasingly relevant role and importance of publicinformation in the citizen’s daily life. Therefore, social communicationbecomes increasingly important in today’s world, which allows organizingefficiently the informational activity of public authorities in their relationswith the people by providing them access to official information resources.Thus, access to information becomes one of the basic requirements fororganizing a constructive dialogue between the public authorities and thecitizens so that the ultimate goals of both parties are achieved: overcomingthe alienation of the authorities from the society, and at the same time,attracting and motivating citizens towards the social management process.The topic Access to Public Interest Information serves as supportfor developing democratic principles. Navigating in the informationenvironment, selecting, acquiring, storing, studying and using publicinformation are complex, multidimensional processes that require certainskills and analytical capacity both from the public authorities and fromlibraries.Starting from its knowledge of community’s needs, the library mustsupport and engage in solving community problems related to informational,cultural and educational issues, and to contribute to the formation of ademocratic society.
