756 Nistor Bardufirst Aromanian grammar entitled Gramatica românǎ sau macedono-vlahǎ(1813) 5 .Educated in Greek schools, in the wonderful cultural climate ofMoscopole city, these authors demonstrate both indirectly and explicitlyin their works, the awakening of the ethnic consciousness of Aromanian.(Peyfuss, Aromânii în era naţionalismelor balcanice în Djuvara, 1996:134. Puşcariu, 1987: 102) In the middle of the European Enlightenment,Aromanian scholars become aware that they are a separate nation in theBalkans and that they are entitled to a culture in their own language, likeAlbanians, Bulgarians (Macedonian Slavs) who they were always incontact with and whose cultural interests they will support in their works.Analyzing and assessing the work of these first Aromanian writers,Th. Capidan (1932: 48 and next) believes that, in their literary activityin Aromanian, they express two directions: one which preached theempowerment of Aromanian through Greek culture and language,represented by Cavalioti and Daniil Moscopoleanul, and other, whichkept the cultural empowerment of the nation they were a part of throughtheir native tongue, represented by Costantin Ucuta, anonymous authorsof The Codex Dimonie, to whom we must also add the anonymous authorof Liturghierului aromânesc, appeared 30 years later (in 1962). A closerinvestigation of the writings in the first category, therefore consideredphylo-Greek, justify our belief that the opinion of Th. Capidan can beamended.4. The question we ask ourselves is how did the Aromanian authorsfrom Moscopole manage to escape from domination of Greek languageand write – yes, with Greek letters – in Aromanian?We find the answer to this question searching the formation ofTeodor Cavalioti’s personality, eloquent, to our belief, also for the writingperformance of Daniil Moscopoleanul, and Constantin Ucuta’s. To thisextent, the studies of the illustrious Romanian Balkan expert VictorPapacostea help us, entitled Teodor Anastasie Cavalioti. Trei manuscriseinedite (1931-1932) and Povestea unei cǎrţi. Protopiria lui Cavalioti.“Ein Unicum” (1937), republished in vol. Papacostea, 1983: 365-396 şi,respective, 397-405).Cavalioti produced an important impression on his contemporary.
