588 Igor Gerasimovthe function was similar to Arab-African tradition. They were the placesof pilgrimage. Such constructions are found in Tadjikistan, Uzbekistan andin the Caucuses. Similar constructions I saw in the Muslim cemeteries inMongolia. 6What rituals were necessary to proclaim the righteous person a saint? We find the answer in the text by Ibn Daifallah. From the the biographyof Mustafa al-Sharifa al-Magribi al-Susi. 7 It is obvious that picking rosaryand reading certain prayers could bring a person to the level of zealot. TheSudanese members of Sufi brotherhoods strictly followed the ritual oftransmission of the symbols of power from one sheikh to the other. Thisritual was performed after the death of the eldest sheikh who had been thetutor of the youngest. The latter usually inherited the power over the Sufibrotherhood. Ibn Daifallah wrote: “When his sheikh died, Mustafawas given his sheikh’s ālāt, his mule and his clothes. The tongue of Mustafaal-Sharif al-Magribi as-Susi constantly, day and night, repeated the name ofAllah Allmighty, no matter weather he was playing or picking rosary. Eachhand held a bead of rosary. He did so till his death”. 8Under ālāt are ment ritual “instruments” which in Kadiriia brotherhoodwere passed from one sheikh to another. The giving of ālāt to the sheikhDafaallah is mentioned in the biography of Muhammad ibn Daud al-Agarral-Audi. 9The ritual dress of the Sufis was very modest. Its description isgiven in the biography of Muhammad ibn Iwaida. It goes as follows:“He was one of those, who united science and practice, piety and humbleness. He studied fikh from al-Kidala ibn al-Faradi. His clothes were ascetic. He had saub – a dress from cheep material… He had long hair and coveredit with honey”. 10 The other Sudanese Sufi Musa walad Iakub al-Fadli al-Uasiki was wearing al-allaj – a coat in red and black stripes. 11 The otherSufi prophet Muhammad ibn Faid ash-Shaarif “wore jubba and girdled itwith a belt”. 12 The other Sufi leader Abd ar-Razik Abu Kurun was wearingjubba and holding a crook. 136Field investigations of the author on July, 2009 near Nalaih in Mongolia.7Seleznev A.G., Selezneva I.A. 2009: 340.8Ibn Dayfallah 1974: 340.9Ibidem: 324.10Ibidem: 336.11Qasim, ‘Aun ’al-Sharīf 1972: 528.12Ibn Dayfallah Ibidem: 324.13Ibidem: 304.
