The second and the third setsof mantras are the same as in the first paridāna, and similarly the offeringof rice-barley, śamī leaves, and water. They are likewise offered on thechild's head, while entrusting him to the rice and barley, to day and night,and to the seasons, in that order.2.2. The paridāna in the Paippalāda tradition 17A description of the commendations appears in Umākānta PAṆḌĀ’sPaippalādavivāhādisaṃskārapaddhati (PSPaddh), a manual of domesticritual practices of the Paippalādins that have been compiled from theKarmasamuccaya (GRIFFITHS 2007:145). The commendation-likeactions are a part of the annaprāśana 18 that in its turn is an extended version17V.
