The contributions of the Aromanian scholars... 851Other works belonging to this monk are: The slavonic Book of Hoursfrom 1638, The small code of laws (1640-1641), and the Evanghelia cuînvăţătură (1642).These examples can be numerous, taking into account the criteriamentioned above. A series of names, such as like that of the book reviewerMihail Macri from Ianina, whose name was mentioned around 1690, or theone of Hristofor Emborocomitu from Ianina, mentioned around 1728.It is believed that the metropolitan bishop Dosoftei who has a greatscholar, poet and translator and had important contributions to thedevelpoment of the romanian book was of aromanian origin. In thisparticular case, the thorough research of romanian filologists SextilPuşcariu, Al. Piru, Şt. Ciobanu 13 , brought to light a series of testimoniesfrom that age regarding his aromanian origin.According to Al. Piru 14 , “Dosoftei, our first poet, by his laic nameDimitrie Barila, was the son of Leontari, an Aromanian merchant and ofMisira. In Lemberg, he had a relative, Chriac Papară, a native of Ianina,who was a guardian of “The Orthodox Fellowship” school. It is believedthat to this school, were they would teach classical rhetoric and poetry inLatin, Greek, Slavonic and Polish, went Dosoftei, born in 16<strong>24</strong>. ”The theory of his Aromanian descent is based on the fact that themetropolitan bishop requested the protection of the Patriarchate Ioachimof Moscow for his relative from his mother’s line, Kiriak Papară, of Lvov,who was persecuted by the bishop Iosif Şumleanski, this family being ofAromanian descent.Another interesting demonstration that supports this theory is made byliterarly historian D. Găzdaru, who uses as starting point the “poet’s motherlanguage” in comparison to the Romanian language.In his career, Dosoftei has made himself remarked through hissystematic activity of translating and printing of religious books inRomanian language, which helped to strengthen the national spirit. Havinga well known and talked about activity we will only mention two of thismost important works: Psaltirea… pe versuri tocmită” (1673) and “Viiaţaşi petrecerea sfinţilor, in 4 volumes (Iaşi, 1682-1686).Starting with the 13 th century the presence of Aromanians in Romanianland bears different meanings.
