822 Ion Constantinhe also published in the “Românismul” magazine, the publication of theCultural League of Romanians from around the World with total supportfrom Onisifor Ghibu and Vasile Pârvan, who was also one of the magazine’scoordinators, a series of materials and information about the actual situationand the historical roots of his brothers over the Danube.At the beginning of November 1914, Onisifor Ghibu settled atBucharest, where he developed a prodigious activity for the entrance ofRomania in the war against Austria-Hungary and the realization of theRomanian unification. He belonged to a generation of warriors who spare noefforts for the realization of the unification. His fight for creating a unitarynational state worked with a remarkable pedagogical activity, illustratedby fundamental works like: “The Romanian School from Transylvania andHungary. Its Historical Development and Current Situation (1915)” and“From the History of Didactic Literature (1916)”. The battle for Unificationwhich Onisifor Ghibu displayed in Romania in the years of disinterest andwar, wore various shapes: public conferences, scientific works, publishingmagazines, etc.In the fall of 1917, Onisifor Ghibu took refuge in Iaşi, where, at thebeginning of March 1917 he crossed over Basarabia’s borders. In thisprovince in which the people’s progress regarding all life domains wasstopped by the tsarist tyranny, he started a cultural supported activitythat came together in a happily way with his struggle for unification. Hisrealizations were in proportion as his organizational talent and used energy:he brought a press with Latin words, printed a primer book, he elaboratededucational programs and contributed to the opening of schools. Moreoverhe had a definite contribution to the national orientation for cultural activityof Basarabia and to the teachers’ preparation of this Romanian provincefor the foundation of the educational act over the values of the Romanianculture. Due to the efforts made, at the 1 st of October 1917, he managedto edit the weekly newspaper “Ardealul”, which was applied to “theTransylvanian people who were situated in Russia”, in which informationabout the Romanians from all the provinces was published, followingtrustily his journalistic convictions that the Romanian press’ duty was toreflect the abroad national life. In short time, the newspaper was transformedin a “paper of all Romanian ancestry sons”, a newspaper that dealt with thenational problems which came from the Romanian struggle for creatingtheir unification as a state. By using the educational resources of history,Onisifor Ghibu referred in the pages of this newspaper written in a largestyle, to the tradition of battle for freedom in the history of Romanians.This tradition is illustrated by the calling “To Alba-Iulia” from the first
