Confining the already-worrisome social pressure the “dangerousintellectual proletariat” was creating, in the search for public jobs(hazy reference to the radicalization of intellectual youth out of lackof professional perspective after the completion of studies and allusionto the attraction the far right was exerting on these young people, especially on those of Aromanian origins)III. Levels of ethnic identity of Aromanians from AlbaniaAccording to the quoted documents, the social layering of Aromaniansin Albania had just been a quaternary one:1. The Aromanians Bourgeois – intellectuals and merchants: there areonly allusions to these two urban classes, as representatives of theAromanian elite, “the moscopolens, ” of great value to the Aromaniannational;2. The Aromanian agriculturalists from the Muzăchiei Depression: in aconstant precarious economic situation, greatly affected by malariatoo, threatened by assimilation in places where they are not in tightergroups;3. The sedentary Aromanians from the mountain area: more exactlythe ones in the Corcea region, considered to be the most powerfulAromanian national element;4. The nomad Aromanians – fărşeroţii: protected against assimilationby the conservation of their tradition and by their transhumant wayof life, but lacking superior training and a higher degree of ethnicconsciousnessAs one can easily anticipate, the ethnic identity was something thatthe four social groups were aware of in most different ways, which isaccentuated by the quoted diplomatic documents. Serving the purposeof the current study, it’s useful to discuss the causes and factors whichgenerated these differences inside the Aromanian communities.1.
