236 Elena Boykovamaterials of interdepartmental meetings on Mongolian question (1912-1917) are kept. The fund holds materials of the Imperial mission to China(1866-1917), the Russian ecclesiastic mission to Beijing (1861-1917), aswell as materials concerning Mongolia of the period of autonomy (1909-1918), Inner Mongolia, the Russian-Chinese border etc. Manuscripts, books, brochures dedicated to China and Mongolia, albums, collectionsof drawings, atlases of maps, plans, circuits are kept in the Fund 152 the“Library of the Asian department” (1889-1915). A lot of editions whichcan be found in this fund, are of bibliographic rarity. Fund 161 is called the“St.-Petersburg General archive” (1766-1905). For example, a geographicalplan of the road from Kyakhta to Beijing made by captain Turbin, whopast that way with a military expedition is kept in Category I of this fund. Now such cartographical materials are of special value because in mostbooks kept in the open storage in libraries, there are no originals of plansand maps made by Russian researchers of Mongolia. A lot of documentsconcerning the theme, interesting for us, are kept in Fund 188 the “Missionin Beijing” (1689-1924). 2After having revealed those archival funds which are of the highestinterest for the initiative stage of work I will continue to work with archivalmaterials themselves. For each archival dossier an electronic card will beopened, in which all documents on the theme with the indication of thenumbers of the folios will be listed, and, in case of necessity, their briefcontents (annotation) will be given. 3Systematization of archival documents and materials and theirfollowing using by researchers will allow to present a more complete viewof the development of Russian-Mongolian relations till 1917, to show theirvarious aspects, which either have not been mentioned yet, or have beenmentioned indirectly only. A special purpose is to show the basic directionsof interaction between two countries in the pre-revolutionary period, aswell as both Russia’s and Mongolia’s interest in the development of variousaspects of cooperation, particularly, in humanitarian sphere.Archival materials concerning Mongolia’s history and Russian-Mongolian relations in the first half of the 20 th century are not of lessinterest. First of all these are documents concerning the 30’s and the 40’s ofthe last century. Just at that date anti-Soviet sentiments took place in someregions of Mongolia. To retrace them and to reveal their reasons is not onlyof special interest for a contemporary historian, but also important from thepoint of view of politology.2See App. 13See App. 2
