Weigand met their followersin the 19 th century.Merchants from Moscopole in Poland in the 16 th century expanded theirbusiness in Russia. After the end of the war between Russia and Turkey(1790-1791) an Aromanian from Moscopole called Atanasi Bala, schooledat universities in Holland and Germany, is mentioned as the secretary ofthe Russian expedition in the Mediterranean Sea and as the secretary of theRussian party at the Congress in Iashi.GermanyAromanians from Moscopole settled in commercial centres inGermany. There was a large colony in Leipzig. They managed to build achapel. Ambrozie Pamperi from Moscopole was the priest of the chapel.The main occupation of the Aromanians settled in Germany was commerce.This explains their wealth and their relations with other parts of Germany,especially the Saxon region, but also with Russia, Poland, Hungary andAustria.ItalyAromanians also reached Italy, especially the Dalmatian coast. Theyalso attended universities at Padova, Venice, Geneva. The Aromanians fromMoscopole had commercial relations with Italy even before the destructionof their town.Constantinople / IstanbulAfter the fall of Constantinople colonies of Aromanians leftConstantinople and settled in Macedonia and the region aroundMoscopole. Later they returned to engage in commercial relations betweenVenice and Constantinople. Some Aromanians had high positions in theOttoman administration. The exact number of Aromanians who settled inConstantinople before and after the destruction of Moscopole is not known.The Holy Country / IsraelSome families from Moscopole reached the Holy Country. PriestSimon from Moscopole is mentioned at St. Sava Monastery in 1744. Afamous silversmith from Moscopole called Jacob is mentioned as havingmade some of the silver religious objects at St. Constantine and HelenChurch near the Holy Tomb around 1793.
