420 Corina Anca PervainLittle actors was a project for children ages 5 and 10, in which throughrole playing the children learned communicational skills, self control andmanners. The role play was used to highlight the differences between rightand wrong in a given situation, and to improve the children’s acting skills.These two projects were very popular between 2006 and 2008, butafter that the interest in them decreased considerably.The social project Let’s be friends! wanted to help children withdeficiencies adapt to social life, to develop group behaviour skills andself-confidence. The project was appreciated and there were requests fromother institutions, that later became the library’s partners, like: C.R.D.E.I.Special School, The Romanian Foundation for Children, Community andFamily (FRCCF), Ţara Minunilor Daycare Center, Perlino House, TheSpecial School for the Visually Impaired.The teacher’s requests mentioned history as a subject of interest forfuture projects, which led to the conception of the Let’s learn historytogether! project, for the middle school students, successfully combiningbooks, as information support, with documentaries and audiovisualcollections.In selecting the themes for the project the department considered thealready available resources. The activities were also selected to complementthe teacher’s plans and readings. To the compulsory reading list wasadded an additional list, which included: historical legends, biographies,historical novels, documentaries, but also materials created by the library’sReference Department accessible through the library’s website (www.bjc.ro – Local history and knowledge) and the documents available at theSpecial Collections Department.The year 2007 comes with various proposals for preschool andelementary school children, through the project: With the book to the littleones, which implies the presence of a librarian among kindergarten childrenand educators (taking books and audiovisual materials to them) carryingout the activities suggested by the educator. The goal of this project is toaccustom the little ones (ages 2 to 3) with the books, to involve them indifferent activities, to promote the library’s services and, later on, to attractthem to the library.As a follow-up of the above mentioned project, another project wasstarted: The secrets of the seasons. This project is addressed to childrenaged 4 to 8 and wants to initiate the little users of our Department in thesecrets of the natural phenomena of the four seasons.
