444 Octavia-Luciana Porumbeanureasonable to question making them available for users at such great costif most of the library users don’t consult them? The library must provideaccess to all types of information resources, but in this case a way shouldbe found to make them more efficient. It would be useful to consider some solutions that could support betterpromotion of these resources. So, given the specific conditions of Romanianmedical higher education, we suggest that much better promotion by thelibrary of their electronic resources could be made on the website of theuniversity where students can’t miss it. Usage would also increase if thelibrary would instigate more training sessions dedicated to electronicresources. Better co-operation with the teaching staff who could providevaluable information to the librarians about the main interests of studentsand also to students about these information resources could overcomethe failure of the library to publicize these resources. The library couldalso start an information campaign and send a regular bulletin to all libraryusers about the resources which their library provides.ConclusionsRomanian libraries provides at present access to many electronicresources, but our study indicated that in the case of the Central Libraryof the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharesta rather small number of users prefer and consult electronic informationresources. The main reason for this limited use is the lack of promotionof these resources. To overcome this situation, the author has pointed outsome possible solutions. What is certain is that the library must continue to provide importantpaper collections alongside access to electronic resources. More trainingsessions are needed that could publicize the advantages of those resourcesfor users throughout the information, learning and research process.Future investigations of the users’ information behaviour should alsoinclude the library branches which could bring more interesting findingsto light. There are obvious variations depending on the specifics of thecommunity of users served by the library and this paper is in no way a pleafor paper resources against electronic resources. What it wants to achieveis to draw attention to the fact that here in Romania some categories of usermay still prefer paper resources whilst those overseas may prefer electronicresources.
