828 Ion Constantin5 years of reformatory prison. It is important to mention that the defendantwas then 74 years old. He survived the hard conditions of detention onlybecause dr. Petru Groza on his deathbed, a few hours before falling in acoma asked to Gh. Gheorghiu-Dej who came to visit him, to approve thereprieve and freedom form jail of four of his acquaintances among whowas also O. Ghibu, a request which was fulfilled in January 1958 whenhe was free by the Decree-Law nr. 612/1957. He was held in a mandatorysettlement at his residence in Sibiu.However, Onisifor Ghibu still remained under the surveillance of thesecurity system. In a memorial of the security system of Sibiu from 30 th ofMarch 1962, it was registered among others that Onisifor Ghibu’s politicalactivity “can be characterized as profound nationalistic chauvinistic, hispublications and conferences held until 23 rd of August 1945 having aprofound character of hatred and hostility towards U.S.S.R., towards whatwas progressive supporting idealism, chauvinism and fascism that developedin Europe… In his entire activity Ghibu Onisifor is known as a self-centered,materialistic, stubborn and reckless element with national chauvinistic andretrograde views, that is why he had multiple misunderstandings whichgenerated the edition and forwarding of the above mentioned of numerousmemoirs to different authorities and organs in the past and present”. 12 Thememorial also shows that “his sons Ghibu Mihai, engineer in Bucharestand Ghibu Octavian, an economist in Bucharest, were arrested during theyear 1961 by the public authority for an antirevolutionary activity” 13 . Inrelation with these dramatic events of his family, Onisifor Ghibu presentedseveral memoirs to the public institutions demonstrating the guiltlessnessof his sons and the unfounded arrest and conviction.A memorial of the Security of Sibiu from 29 th of June 1967 registeredthat the foregoing was brought into efficient evidence in the problematicfile 413, knowing that “he deals with some writings that seem to havealso a mystical-religious content and because of that he cannot cometo an understanding with the R.S.R. Academy in order to be published.That is why he stayed a longer time in Bucharest to arrange through hisacquaintances the publishing of the material” 14 . The memorial also statesthat O. Ghibu “maintains relations with different factors from Sibiu,among them there are ex leaders of P.N.L. like Ciolan Ioan, but also withfactors from other places especially in Cluj and Bucharest, whereby hecorresponds” 15 .
