A lesser-known Agniṣṭoma Prayoga of the Sāmaveda 659kṛto mandaiḥ /. One must admire his confidence and conviction. Withoutgoing into the details, it is sufficient to say that he completely discardsBhavatrāta’s view. Also, the changes prescribed by the JB in the middaypressing are not be employed in the ādhānam, according to Śrīnivāsa. Hesays that it is only the foolish ones who do that mistake and further addsthat it is necessary to question them as to where did they get this foolishidea from.It is very clear that he is not a blind follower of the tradition. He thinks. He questions. And then he improves on the old practice. For this, he notonly uses his knowledge of the Jaiminīya texts, but, as he himself states, healso takes into consideration the practice of the learned ones: śiṣṭācāraṁ cabuddhvā. His innovative practices have become an established ritual for thelater texts and sacrificers. But these are not the reasons that make him and his work stand apartfrom all the other texts. The most distinguishing feature of this stern ritualistis very unique. His Prayoga is the only available Jaiminīya manual that gives all theSāmans as they are to be chanted in the actual performance. Whereas theother texts simply name the Sāmans (e.g. dhūme, udgāte, kaulmudam, etc.)he gives them in the gāṇa form, with all the notations svaras written theway Sabhāpati’s Dharaṇalakṣaṇa prescribes. One has to bear in mind thatapart from the Śrautakoṣa and some other stray references elsewhere, theJaiminīya Sāmans are not recorded anywhere with the accents or notations. And so, the importance of this Prayoga is beyond mere textual one. Itis good to see how in those days Śrīnivāsa realized the importance andsignificance of records and documentation. Now will this assembly realize the unique role and position of thissmall Prayoga. It works like a rejuvenating medicine – sañjivanī- for thealmost dying Jaiminīya tradition. And I honestly feel that it is my sacredduty towards the Jaiminīya Sāmaveda and a modest gurudakṣiṇā to all myrevered Gurus to publish this text: Ādhānapūrvakāgniṣṭomaprayoga byŚrīnivāsādhvarīndra.
