the Righteous, who had just passed the great Event of Judgment. The second stage is described in verses 12-14, when<br />

they enter the Garden in Garments of Silk, and find that their former humility in the probationary life is rewarded with high<br />

honour in the new world they have entered. The third stage is in verses 15-21, where they settle down in Bliss, with<br />

Garments of fine silk and heavy brocades, with Ornaments and Jewels, with an ordered Feast of set service, and the Cup<br />

of Zanjabil. This word literally means Ginger. In Eastern medicine Ginger is administered to give warmth to the body and<br />

zest to the taste; this is appropriate for the Royal Feast which is now figured forth. (76.17)<br />

ZINA:<br />

24:2 - The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication flog each of them with a hundred<br />

stripes: let not compassion move you in their case in a matter prescribed by Allah if ye believe<br />

2954 Zina includes sexual intercourse between a man and a woman not married to each other. It therefore applies both to<br />

adultery (which implies that one or both of the parties are married to a person or persons other than the ones<br />

concerned) and to fornication, which, in its strict signification, implies that both parties are unmarried. The law of<br />

marriage and divorce is made easy in Islam, so that there may be the less temptation for intercourse outside the welldefined<br />

incidents of marriage. This makes for greater self-respect for both man and woman. Other sex offences are<br />

also punishable, but this Section applies strictly to Zina as above defined. Although zina covers both fornication and<br />

adultery, in the opinion of Muslim jurists, the punishment laid down here applies only to unmarried persons. As for<br />

married persons, their punishment, according to the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be on him), is stoning to death.<br />

If this Surah is read in the sequence of the Surahs beginning with Az-Zilzal, one can fully<br />

well understand how the fundamental beliefs of Islam and its teachings were impressed on<br />

the peoples minds in the earliest stage in Makkah. In Surah Az-Zilzal, it was said that in the<br />

Hereafter man's full record will be placed before him and not an atom's weight of good or evil<br />

done by him in the world will have been left unrecorded.<br />

He would read from sixty to one hundred verses during the morning prayer. Sometimes he would<br />
