5565 Cf. xxxix. 71, n. 4348. "Every time": it may not be the same angels who are guarding the gates of Hell every time new
inmates come in. The pure, innocent angel nature does not know the crookedness of human evil, and is surprised at
so many human beings coming in for punishment: it wonders if no warning was conveyed to men, whereas in fact
men have a warning in Clear Signs during all the period of their probation. The Clear Signs come from Revelation,
from their own conscience, and from all nature around them. (67.8)
