In bronchisetting in with a violent fever, it moderates the latter much morcertainly than Aconite. When speaking of Angina we have hadoccasion to remark that we consider Belladonna a very efficientremedy in acute catarrh of the respiratory organs. The single dianostic of a disposition to perspiration while the skin is very hoconstitutes a decidedly characteristic indication. Prominent symptoms, of which we only mention the local symptoms, are the following: A dry, continual, distressing and sometimes spasmodiccough ; short paroxysms of cough, but very violent, especially towards evening; no expectoration, or else a yellowish, tenacious,blood-streaked, scanty expectoration. The respiration is oppresseirregular, and hurried, especially while the patient is sleeping.sation of great fulness in the chest, without any real pain ; detmination of blood to the lungs. This shows that Belladonna isindicated in the lighter as well as in the severer and severest fof catarrh, but ordinarily only in the first three or four days, seldom at a later period.Mercurius corresponds with the whole course of a severe attack ofbronchitis, even better than Belladonna. It is particularly adaptto children and robust adults, but not so much to old people. Theis a violent fever, the temperature is very high, there is greatposition to perspire without obtaining any relief from it ; in codistinction to Belladonna there is a constant alternation of chiland heat, with a remarkable sensitiveness to the most triflingchanges of temperature. If the stomach and the digestive organsare likewise affected, the tongue has a thick yellowish coating, whereas under Belladonna there is only a thin whitish coating inthe middle of the tongue; or if diarrhoea is present, Mercurius iindicated so much more positively. The most prominent and mostimportant local symptoms are: Feeling of dryness, roughness, andsoreness down the middle of the chest, burning in the side; dry, violent and wearing cough, especially in the evening and until minight, with tenacious, yellowish, sometimes blood-tinged expectortion, every paroxysm of cough is preceded by anxious oppression, dyspnoea. Another characteristic which distinguishes Mercuriusfrom Belladonna, is an unquenchable longing for icy cold drinks, although they always make the cough worse.Bronchitis Acuta. 175Bryonia alba will not often be found indicated at the commencement of bronchitis ; if indicated, it will most likely be in thehttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
