In our part of the country the diseaseis of very rare occurrence. If we had a case to treat, we shouldin the first place depend upon Silicec^^ Sulphury Calcarea carbonand Lvcopodiurn ; and in the next place upon Arsenicum^ Aurumand Petroleum. Knowing that cleanliness and attention to the skingenerally can keep the disease at a very low stage of developmentwe urgently recommend the daily use of warm baths and frictionswith castile soap, likewise vapor-baths. K we desire a speedy removal of the scales, we have to rub the affected portions of theskin with oil a few hours before bathing.9. Uehen, StroplmliiB.Tooth-rash.This exaiithem appears in three distinct forms, as strophulus, lichen simplex and agrius.Strophulus is in reality nothing else than lichen simplex in thefirst period of dentition. It is caused by a continued irritationthe skin, or is a consequence of bad nutrition, catarrhal irritatof the intestinal canal, or else it seems to be exclusively occasby the process of dentition. Beside the derangements which suchcauses necessarily occasion, the appearance of this eruption seemvery seldom preceded by fever and restlessness. On one or moreplaces, sometimes only in the face, and at times over the wholebody, scattered papulse or pimples break out which either have areddish or else a natural color like the rest of the skin. If thechildren are sufficiently advanced in age, they show by their manner that the papulse itch, especially in the bed. A single papuleheals in three to four days, but successive crops of papuise areto occur, protracting the whole process for weeks.Lichen simplex arises from similar causes as strophulus ; it maylikewise be occasioned by a high degree of temperature and occursin every age. Its appearance is very seldom preceded by distinctfever. The papulae come out unperceived, mostly in the face, havethe same color as the skin or look a little redder; they generallform clusters and itch pretty severely ; the destruction of theirby scratching gives rise to very small scurfs. Single papulee disappear within ten to twelve days ; this form of lichen may likewibe protracted by successive croi)S for months, so that the originacute disorder may assume a very obstinate, chronic form.Lichen agrius often represents a higher degree of the former, buthttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
